REGIONAL SALES MANAGER

The Regional Sales Manager is an outside sales management position in which the individual is responsible for managing and directing sales activities within the assigned region.  This requires extensive travel, organization skills, self-motivation, and the ability to manage others.  The Regional Sales Manager may also be responsible for an assigned sales territory in which he/she functions as the assigned salesperson for that territory. The position requires that the individual live and travel within the assigned area. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.     Oversee sales and sales activities of an assigned region and the Area Managers assigned to that region (typically 2-6 employees).

2.     Hire, train, and supervise assigned Area Managers.  This includes coaching and development, evaluating performance by conducting mid-year and annual reviews, traveling jointly to key customers, and holding direct reports accountable to company objectives. 

3.     Analyze sales information and develop sales projections.  Assign sales objectives to Area Managers, monitor and evaluate their progress, and take steps to meet assigned objectives.

4.     Extensively travel (both driving and flying) the assigned territory to build relationships with existing and new customers, including engineers, municipalities, and distributors.

5.     Continually look for opportunities to promote, market, and develop products with distributors, municipalities, contractors, and engineers.

6.     Review travel and selling expenses of assigned Area Managers and ensure understanding and adherence to company policies.

7.     Maintain an awareness of sales activities and events of the region.  This includes the knowledge of all things relating to competition, products, distribution and industry events.  Report to National Sales Manager weekly regarding the Region and its employees.

8.     Attend industry conventions and activities within the Region or as directed by The National Sales Manager.  Attend sales conventions in territory (and nationally as required); set up displays and present products.

9.     Negotiate job pricing, back charges, and product returns related to the region.

Meet all company work schedule and attendance expectations, and perform within the physical and environmental demands of the job

additional job responsibilities

1.     Assist the VP of Sales & Marketing in all areas related to sales and marketing of products.  This includes national trade shows, national industry events, customer events, and buying group negotiations.

2.     Maintain pricing structures, including competitor comparisons and customer price lists.

3.     Assist in product development and research activities.

4.     Develop and maintain key business relationships with management level of distribution. 

5.     Submit travel calendars, call reports and expense reports to VP of Sales & Marketing.

6.     Function as direct salesperson (Area Manager) for an assigned territory.  Store and protect sample materials.

7.     Perform product presentations and demonstrations for large and small groups of distributors, municipalities, contractors, and engineers to secure product approvals.  Product demonstrations may require heavy lifting and operation of tools and hydraulic motors

8.     Travel with distributor salespersons and promote products.

9.     Interact as needed with inside sales/customer service, quotations, and engineering regarding customers, sales orders, and returns.

10.  Maintain a clean and reliable vehicle, provided by the company. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1.     Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or Business or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

2.     5+ years of experience in sales within the waterworks industry

3.     Knowledge of waterworks industry, manufacturers, distributors, and/or products

4.     Strong oral and written communication skills; courteous and articulate

5.     Strong understanding of Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and other sales-related software

6.     Strong organizational skills, highly self-motivated, and can work independently towards defined goals

7.     Ability to work with all types of people, building relationships with existing and new customers, including engineers, municipalities, and distributors

8.     Ability to set and work within budget

9.     Ability to operate hydraulic motors and equipment

10.  Ability to safely drive and maneuver a trailer

11.  Professional attitude with supervisor, customers, and co-workers

12.  Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good Department of Motor Vehicles driving record

13.  Ability to travel extensively, including some weekends and holidays

14.  Must reside within the assigned sales territory

15.  Must be willing to sign and accept a Non-Compete and Non-Disclosure Agreement, as the incumbent has access to sensitive and confidential information involving payroll, budgets, sales, production costs, product development, and other business-critical items  

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.     5+ years of management experience

2.     Experience with other waterworks companies (distributors, municipalities, contractors, etc.)

WORKING CONDITIONS

1.     Extensive travel involved: 50% of the time (typically 10-15 days/nights per month)
